•Lighting: Photographer Joanna Kustra explains how preparing before a shoot is vital to get lighting that looks good and is easy to edit. “First, there needs to be a general idea for the shoot and I usually talk it through with the stylist first. I look for inspiration online and in magazines, and analyse how other photographers lit their stories. At that point, I usually have in my head the mood that I’d like to achieve. On the day of the shoot, I usually start with one light, adding others as needed. I test the setup on my assistant while the model is being prepared, and then adjust it for the model. I then analyse the first few photos on a monitor to see what needs adjusting.

•Composition: There's a dark atmosphere to Kustra's photography, particularly in the collection that mixes brides and widows in compositions that almost haunt the eye, long after you've passed to the next artist.

•Space: Joanna Kustra uses a lot of space in her work, the beauty in her work got transferred onto every inch of the wonderful spacing surrounding her models.

•Subject Matter: Kustra’s main subject matter is about fashion, beauty, children and portraits. In her photographs, there is one thing she uses that makes her images similar and that is lighting, she makes her models very light and it makes the image itself glow because of the colours that are used in the photograph.

•Genre: Portrait

•What is in the picture?

Scarf tied on hair, waffle cone, ice-cream on cone, a ring on the left side finger, colourful nail polish, light pink blazer with fur on collar, make-up that matches hair colour, and a girl posing to give an idea to an audience – making them think the ice-cream is yummy, by the way she has her tongue hanging out, her head on an angle looking up to the camera.

•What mood?

A happy, joyful, girly mood. I know this because the way the Artist has used her colours, they are very colour and light as well. Joanna Kustra has used warm colours on the model and has also used a cool colour for the background to make the model stand out. The overall idea the Artist is giving away to the audience is that girly look, I would say she was trying to mix up the style in now days with the olden styles. Just the way she's used the laced material for the arms. What I like about this photograph is that its simple, all the colours together go so well, the make-up matches her hair and that the image itself is nice and colourful.

•What is the Artist focusing on?

The area of the image that the photographer wants us to focus on is basically the ice-cream that the model is holding in her had, the warm soft light colours that’s she's used  for the colour of the ice-cream blends in so nicely with the other light colours . Its definitely the ice-cream that Joanna has used for her focal-point, this gives the audience an idea of how tasty and yummy the ice-cream is. You can tell by the way she has her tongue hanging out of her mouth, giving away that tasty look and the way she has her eyes pointing to the camera.
